Amman, 8 January 2026 - The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, has concluded a visit to Riyadh as part of his ongoing engagement with Yemeni, regional, and international actors.
During the visit, he met with the President of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), Rashad Al-Alimi, the Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaya Zindani, and other senior Yemeni officials, including members of the Presidential Leadership Council, Abdulrahman Abu Zaraa Al-Muharrami and Tarek Saleh.
Discussions focused on recent developments in Yemen and their broader implications. In this context, the Special Envoy underscored that the call by the PLC President Al-Alimi for southern dialogue hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia offers a timely opportunity to reduce tensions, address long-stand grievances through political means, and move discussions towards stabilization.
The Special Envoy also noted the widespread support for dialogue expressed by Yemenis and the international community emphasizing that inclusive dialogue offers Yemenis an important opportunity to reflect diverse perspectives, and chart a more inclusive and forward-looking path.
The Special Envoy also met with representatives of the permanent five members of the Security Council (P5), with discussions focusing on the need to support ongoing de-escalation efforts, and the importance of sustained international engagement in support of a Yemeni-led political process.
