UNRCCA hosts capacity consultations on eliminating the supply of weapons to terrorists

On 4-6 November, UNRCCA hosted capacity consultations in the field of eliminating the supply of weapons to terrorists in Central Asia organized by the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Center of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT/UNCCT) for 25 Turkmen officials in Ashgabat.

Participants were introduced to the work of the UN in the area of countering terrorist use of small arms and light weapons (SALW), improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), including facilitation of the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution 2370 (2017). Turkmen officials were presented with best practices regarding national policies and legislation as well as existing counter-terrorism and weapons related institutional frameworks, directives and technical standards.

Reference was made to the recent country assessment mission of the UN Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) to Turkmenistan and recommendations made regarding elimination of supply of weapons to terrorist organizations.

Capacity consultations were organized within the framework of the UNCCT/UNOCT Global Programme on Countering Terrorist Use of Weapons with the financial support of the Russian Federation.
