The Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, Mahamat Saleh ANNADIF, meets President Macky SALL, renews United Nations commitment to an active partnership

 

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mahamat Saleh ANNADIF was received today in audience by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky SALL.

Mahamat Saleh ANNADIF, who has just taken up his new functions as Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, discussed with President Macky SALL aspects of cooperation and partnership between the United Nations and Senegal, and the need to strengthen this partnership in order to better support Senegal in facing multiple challenges. The meeting also addressed various topics relating to peace and security, and stability in the sub-region.

The Special Representative commended Senegal's constant commitment to consolidating peace and security in West Africa and the Sahel and underlined the importance of strengthening regional coordination in the fight against terrorism, in particular in the Lake Chad basin and in the Sahel.

The Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel reiterated the commitment of the United Nations through UNOWAS to support Senegal and the countries of the sub-region in their efforts to consolidate peace, development and democracy.
