The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mohamed Ibn Chambas, participated in the 56th Ordinary Session of the Authority of the Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Among others, the ECOWAS Leaders deliberated on the prevailing social, economic and political issues affecting the region, including emerging security threats, the action plan for regional security as well as its financing mechanism.
