As part of continued engagement between the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel, Leonardo Santos Simão, met yesterday in Abuja, Nigeria, with the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, to review recent political and security developments in the region and further strengthen cooperation between the two organizations.
During the meeting, they reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting dialogue, leading to peace, stability, and democracy.
Emphasizing the importance of regional unity, the two officials underscored the need to preserve and consolidate the gains achieved in regional integration across West Africa. They reiterated their commitment to continued collaboration in addressing regional challenges and advancing peace, security, and integration across West Africa and the Sahel.
