CNMC - border demarcation pillar

As part of the activities of the Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission (CNMC), Leonardo Santos Simão, in his capacity as President of the Commission, today concluded a working mission to Cameroon and Nigeria.

The visit is part of ongoing efforts to finalize the border demarcation process between the two countries, in line with commitments made by the governments of Cameroon and Nigeria.

During his mission, the President of the CNMC met with several members of the governments of the two countries, including the Prime Minister, Joseph Ngute, the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, and the Head of the delegation to the Mixed Commission, the former Minister Mr. Michel Zoah on the Cameroonian side, and the Minister of Justice, Attorney General of the federation, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, on the Nigerian side.

These exchanges made it possible to take stock of the progress of the demarcation work, the work programme for 2026, and to agree on the measures to be implemented to accelerate and finalize the process by the end of 2027.

These meetings were marked by a convergence of views on the need to finalize the demarcation in a spirit of dialogue, fraternity, mutual trust and respect for international commitments. The authorities of the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful and lasting resolution of border issues and the strengthening of their cooperation.

The discussions also underlined the importance of strengthening cross-border cooperation with a view to creating a development corridor.

The Chairman of the Mixed Commission commended the continued commitment of the two countries and reiterated the support of the United Nations to this process, which is an example of successful cooperation in the prevention of border conflicts and peacebuilding.

The Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission remains a key strategic framework for promoting a peaceful, stable border conducive to shared development.
