Closure of OSES

The Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Sahel (OSES) was established in December 2012 to lead and coordinate UN political efforts in advancing peace and development in the region. Its responsibilities were transferred to the UN Office for West Africa and the Sahel.

New York, December 11, 2014 - The Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations for the Sahel, Mrs. Hiroute Guebre Sellassie, briefed the UN Security Council on the situation in the Sahel. She expressed deep concern about the increased challenges in the Sahel region and drew the attention of the international community to the deteriorating humanitarian and security situation in the region.
