UNOAU is supporting and participating in three key side events to advance climate-responsive peace and security solutions, climate finance access for underserved communities, and AU-UN partnerships.

Why this matters

Climate risks are amplifying fragility across Africa. UNOAU works with the AU and partners to integrate climate security analysis into prevention, peacebuilding, and financing decisions, ensuring solutions reach communities most at risk.


1) Bridging the Gap: Making Climate Finance Work for the Underserved

Date: 12 November 2025

Focus:
Generate political momentum and operational pathways to make climate finance equitable and accessible in fragile and underserved settings, with an emphasis on country platforms as a central mechanism and on bridging global financing instruments with local needs.

Expected outcomes:

  • Announcements of readiness support or pledges to build capacity, convene stakeholders, and develop investment pipelines
  • Spotlight and engagement with the Improved and Equitable Access Network (countries affected by climate change, conflict, and high humanitarian need)
  • Clear next steps to align climate finance, resilience, and peacebuilding, including follow-up through the CSM and the Network

Participation & pledges:
All participants are invited to submit financial, technical, or policy commitments during the session via a live digital “Pledge and Commitment Wall.”


2) Africa Climate, Peace and Security Partnerships Roundtable

Focus:
This roundtable brings together key partners and policymakers to strengthen collaboration on climate, peace, and security programming in Africa. It will explore how joint analytics, financing mechanisms, and institutional partnerships can help scale climate-resilient peacebuilding initiatives across the continent.

Expected outcomes:

  • Enhanced coordination between AU, UN, and regional institutions on climate–peace programming
  • Identification of joint analytical and financing opportunities for implementation
  • Agreement on a framework for sustained AU–UN–partner collaboration post-COP30



3) Dialogue on Climate Policy and Finance for Sustaining Peace and Security

This dialogue explores how climate policy and finance can be harnessed to sustain peace and security across Africa. It aims to bridge evidence and investment by ensuring that climate financing frameworks are conflict-sensitive, inclusive, and aligned with peacebuilding priorities in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.

Expected outcomes:

  • Identification of actionable policy and financing pathways linking climate adaptation and peacebuilding
  • Strengthened partnerships between the AU, UN, and development partners
  • Agreed next steps for joint programming and follow-up beyond COP30
