On the eve of the Legislative Elections, Special Representative Simão encourages the Senegalese to vote peacefully
Dakar, 15 November 2024 - On the eve of the legislative elections, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Leonardo Santos Simão, encourages the Senegalese, as part of the exercise of their civic responsibility, to vote peacefully.
He calls on all national actors to remain mobilized to maintain a peaceful environment and urges political leaders, candidates and their supporters to refrain from any action likely to incite violence or the use of hate speech before, during and after the election, scheduled for this Sunday, November 17.
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel reaffirms the continued support of the United Nations to Senegal and wishes a holding of peaceful and inclusive elections that will consolidate the country's democratic institutions.
