Meeting of UNOWAS and Resident Coordinators of the Mano River Union

The United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), the Development Coordination Office (DCO) and the United Nations Resident Coordinators of the of the Mano River Union (MRU) Member States, held on Wednesday 10 March 2022 at UNOWAS Headquarters, a meeting on common challenges to peace, security and sustainable development in the Mano River sub-region.

With the presence of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel, Mahamat Saleh ANNADIF, the participants shared information, analyses and points of view on various subjects including drug trafficking, organized crime, illegal exploitation of resources, the growing ethnicization of politics, the instrumentalization of the justice system and the use of hate speech in the media.

The participants agreed to strengthen their coordination in order to better help the States of the MRU to face the major threats to regional peace and security.
