The Special Representative of the Secretary-general and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mohamed Ibn Chambas, welcomes the approval of the Parity Law by the Parliament of Cabo Verde.

“The approval of the Parity Law is a great achievement. It demonstrates the commitment of Cabo Verde to ensure an effective equality of rights and duties between men and women which will contribute to consolidating social justice and development in the country,” said Mohamed Ibn Chambas.

The Special Representative congratulates the Cabo Verdean Parliament and the national deputies for this historical accomplishment and encourages all stakeholders to maintain this momentum to further reinforce democracy in the country.
