The Special Representative of the Secretary-general and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mohamed Ibn Chambas, attended on Monday, 22 January 2018, the inauguration ceremony of the new President of Liberia, George Manneh Weah.

Mr. Ibn Chambas congratulated President Weah on his election and official inauguration. This democratic election confirms the aspiration and determination of the Liberian people for peace and prosperity, he said.

Ibn Chambas reiterated the UN's commitment to work closely with President Weah and the Liberian people towards the consolidation of peace in Liberia and the region.
