SRSG ANNADIF commends the efforts of the President of ECOWAS, Umaro Sissoco Embaló
Dakar, 12 Octobre,2022- The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mahamat Saleh ANNADIF, concluded yesterday a one-day visit to Guinea-Bissau.
Mr. ANNADIF was received in audience by His Excellency Umaro Sissoco Embaló, President of the Republic of Guinea- Bissau, and current Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The discussions focused on the political and security situation in the sub-region, in particular on the countries in transition, as well as on the partnership with the United Nations and their support for the consolidation of democratic institutions, peace and development in Guinea-Bissau. .
Speaking of the political and security developments in the sub-region, the Special Representative commended the efforts made by His Excellency Umaro Sissoco Embaló in his capacity as current Chairman of ECOWAS to promote a rapid resolution of the various crises, and to strengthen peace, democracy and development in West Africa. Mr. ANNADIF also stressed the importance of a strengthened regional approach to tackle the multiple challenges facing the sub-region.
He also reiterated the commitment of the United Nations system to work with all partners, in particular ECOWAS, to provide the necessary support to the people of Bissau-Guinea.
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel welcomed the commitment of His Excellency Umaro Sissoco Embaló, President of the Republic of Guinea Bissau, and current President of the ECOWAS to reinforce the partnership between ECOWAS and the United Nations.
