The new Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) and Chairman of the Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission, Mr. Leonardo Santos Simão, took up his duties this Tuesday at UNOWAS headquarters in Dakar. 

In the coming days, Mr. Simão will embark on a familiarization tour of the sub-region. The first part of his tour will include Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria, Niger, Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone, where he will meet national authorities, regional partners and UN country teams.
