The UN Security Council issued on Tuesday 30 January 2018 a presidential statement on West Africa and the Sahel region. It follows the briefing to the Security Council, on 11 January 2018, of the Special Representative of the Secretary General for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) Mohamed Ibn Chambas. The statement addresses several country-specific situations and expresses serious concern over the range of security challenges facing the region, with a focus on the terrorism threat.
