Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman commends Senegal for its contributions to regional and global peace and security
United Nations’ Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, visited Senegal yesterday, 25 July 2016, as part of his tour to a number of countries in Central and West Africa.
While in Dakar, Mr. Feltman met with Mr. Mankeur Ndiaye, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad and was received in audience by H.E. President Macky Sall. He commended Senegal for its efforts towards consolidating its democratic reforms and for its contributions to regional and global peace and security, as a current member of the United Nations Security Council.
Mr. Feltman also consulted with the Ambassadors of Security Council Members in Dakar over the political developments in the region, including Guinea Bissau and The Gambia.
He further met with UN Regional Directors based in Dakar and called for the sustained engagement of their respective Agencies and Programs in the region. He underscored the importance of acting as One UN in the implementation of the United Nations Integrated Strategy for the Sahel (UNISS).
Mr. Feltman’s visit to Senegal concluded his tour of a number of countries in Central and West Africa, notably Gabon, Congo, Chad and Guinea-Bissau.
