As part of its activities, the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) has provided financial and technical support to the Burkina Faso chapter of the West African Young Women Leaders Network (ROAJELF-Burkina) for the organization of a youth reflection and training workshop for prevention and conflict management, peace and strengthening of social cohesion in Burkina Faso.
The workshop, which was held from May 26 to 28, 2021 in Ouagadougou, aimed to strengthen the contribution of young women and men to peace efforts and the consolidation of social cohesion within communities, and to develop an action plan for peacebuilding in Burkina Faso.
During the three days, participants representing youth and women's organizations, political parties and state institutions, discussed various issues related to conflicts and the role that youth should play in preventing these conflicts and promoting peace.
The participants committed themselves to play a decisive role in this sense, and called for the holding of annual meetings to focus on the contribution of youth to the promotion of peace and advocated for the strengthening of ROAJELF-Burkina’s capacities in order to be an integrated framework of reflections and proposals of youth for peace.
The government of Burkina Faso and the various partners welcomed the results of the workshop and reassured their commitment to support the youth of Burkina Faso in their will to contribute to social cohesion and peace building.
