At the end of his visit to Côte d'Ivoire from 23 to 29 October 2025, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel, Mr. Leonardo Santos Simão, congratulates the people of Côte d'Ivoire on the peaceful holding of the presidential election on 25 October.
The Special Representative commends the spirit of responsibility shown by the people of Côte d'Ivoire throughout the electoral process. He stressed that the peaceful conduct of the elections testifies to the solidity of the country's institutions and the deep attachment of the population to democratic values, peace and stability.
Mr. Simão paid tribute to the national authorities, the Independent Electoral Commission, the defence and security forces, as well as the national and international observers, for their decisive role in the smooth conduct of the elections. He also commends the commitment of young people, women, community and religious leaders, as well as the media, who have contributed to promoting a climate of peace. He commends, in particular, the attitude of all candidates in the presidential election, who have shown mutual respect throughout the process, thus making a significant contribution to creating a peaceful climate in the country.
While congratulating the Ivorian people on this important step, the Special Representative encourages them to continue on the path of dialogue, national unity and social cohesion, in order to consolidate democratic gains and continue to build together a future of shared peace and prosperity.
"The election of 25 October is a collective victory for Côte d'Ivoire. It demonstrates the country's ability to overcome its differences and to place the national interest above divisions. I hope that this spirit of unity will continue to guide Ivorian people in the sustainable consolidation of peace and development," said Mr. Simão.
The United Nations reaffirms its commitment to support the Ivorian people in their efforts to strengthen democracy, social cohesion and sustainable development.
