In the context of their permanent interaction, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) announce the formal conclusion of a joint study on Pastoralism and Security in West Africa.

This study aims at providing expertise and assistance to countries affected by this problem, particularly in the field of preventing violent conflicts between farmers and herders.

The results and recommendations of this study will be presented on Thursday, November 9, 2017 during an official ceremony at the ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja, with the participation of ECOWAS Commission President Marcel De Souza and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mohamed Ibn Chambas.

A joint communiqué will be distributed at the end of the launching ceremony.
