Open Day on the implementation, in West Africa and the Sahel, of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1325 (2000) and subsequent resolutions on women, peace and security
Bissau, 23 November 2021 - H.E. Umaro Sissoco Embaló, President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, and Mahamat Saleh ANNADIF, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel, will co-chair on Tuesday, 23 November 2021, the Regional Open Day on the implementation, in West Africa and the Sahel, of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1325 (2000) and subsequent resolutions on women, peace and security.
The President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations will discuss with women and young leaders of the region on new initiatives to be put in place to prevent conflicts and consolidate peace, and means to speed up the implementation of the “Women, Peace and Security” program in West Africa and the Sahel.
The regional open day will be organized by the Government of Guinea-Bissau and the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), in partnership with the Economic Commission of West African States(ECOWAS), United Nations peace missions in the sub-region, UN Women Regional Office, the United Nations Development program (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the Regional Thematic Group on Gender of the United Nations System, the Women, Youth, Peace and Security Working Group in West Africa and the Sahel and the G5 Sahel Women's Platform.
A press briefing will be organized after the opening ceremony in the presence of H.E. Umaro Sissoco Embaló, President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, and Mahamat Saleh ANNADIF, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for West Africa and the Sahel.
