Violent extremism continues to adversely affect the administration of justice. The targeting of judicial personnel, destruction of infrastructure coupled with incidents implicating security forces in human rights violations have reinforced a climate of fear and impunity. Therefore, it is important to adopt a human rights-based approach in our overall response.
It is also important to preserve the role of the justice system as an impartial and credible adjudicator in political processes. A credible justice system is better equipped to address complex contentious issues arising from electoral processes, which otherwise could ignite tensions and instability. Political and constitutional reforms should reinforce the principle of separation of powers and ultimately the independence of the judiciary...
