The Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel and the Assistant Secretary-General for Africa visit the Gambia to support a peaceful, transparent and inclusive election.

Dakar, 03 November 2021 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mahamat Saleh ANNADIF, begins today a three-day visit to The Gambia.

This mission is also part of UNOWAS' regular activities to support the Gambia in its efforts to organize a peaceful, inclusive and transparent presidential election, scheduled for December 4, 2021.

Mr. ANNADIF is accompanied by Ms. Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee, who is on a familiarization visit after taking office as Assistant Secretary-General for Africa in the Departments of Political Affairs and Peacebuilding, and Peace Operations.

During the visit, Mr. ANNADIF and Ms. Pobee will meet with election observation missions deployed to The Gambia, civil society organizations, and the UN country team.
