The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mohamed Ibn Chambas, chaired, on 21 October 2019 in Dakar, the 9th meeting of the Steering Committee of the United Nations Integrated Strategy for the Sahel (UNISS).

17 May 2019 - Accra, 17 May 2019- The United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in partnership with the UN System Staff College (UNSSC), the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) and the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC), organized a Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop at the KAIPTC in Accra on 13-17 May 2019.
16 May 2019 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mohamed Ibn Chambas, conducted today a three-day visit to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. This mission, which is part of UNOWAS good offices activities, aimed to discuss with stakeholders the preparation of the presidential elections scheduled for 22 June 2019.
13 May 2019 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mohamed Ibn Chambas, condemns the attack on a church in Dablo, in north-central Burkina Faso Faso, that left six people dead, including the priest of the Church.
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations extends his deepest condolences to the families of the victims, to the people and to the Government of Burkina Faso.
