09 Oct 2018 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mohamed Ibn Chambas, welcomes the decision taken by the Government and opposition parties in Niger to revise the electoral code within the National Committee for Political Dialogue (CNDP).
"This agreement between all political actors members of the CNDP is a major step forward in consolidating the political dialogue in Niger," said Mohamed Ibn Chambas.
30 Jun 2018 - Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, hosted a High-Level Meeting on the Sahel, on the margins of the 31st Summit of the African Union. The meeting, which was held in partnership with the G5 Sahel, was co-chaired by the United Nations.

14 Apr 2018 - The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights - West Africa Regional Office (OHCHR-WARO), the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in collaboration with the Network of National Human Rights Institutions in West Africa, organized a regional consultation for National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) from West Africa and the Sahel from 12-14 April in Dakar.

18 Feb 2018 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mohamed Ibn Chambas, concluded on 18 February a three-day visit to The Gambia.
The objective of the visit was to renew UN’s engagement to support the authorities of The Gambia in their efforts towards the implementation of new and vital reforms.
