SRSG ANNADIF reaffirms the UN commitment to work closely with the Government and the people of Nigeria to promote peace and stability in the country and in the sub-region
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mahamat Saleh ANNADIF has concluded today a two-day visit to Nigeria.
This visit is part of his familiarization tour in the sub region in his new capacity as Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).
In Abuja, the Special Representative was received in audience by His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu BUHARI. They discussed the issues and challenges the sub region is currently facing, and on which the United Nations, Nigeria and ECOWAS will continue to cooperate.
The Special Representative commended the leadership role that Nigeria plays in the region particularly in the Lake Chad Basin, in West Africa and in the Sahel, and reaffirmed the continued commitment of the UN to work closely with the Government and the people of Nigeria to promote peace, security and development in the country and in the sub region.
He also met with the UN Country team. Discussions focused on the priority areas of work of the UN system in Nigeria and ways in which UNOWAS could amplify their important contributions in furtherance of peace and development in Nigeria.
